prejudicial fact or fiction ; an ordinary Man?

To the few who read these items 

I refer to the subject of "an ordinary man"

one is probably fiction , one of probable fact... concerning the mentality of people who "love their country" and forget to be human(e) and the effect on themselves and those around them

Perhaps catalan/spain is in the headlines recently,  Flemish/walloon belgique less so,

 a Europe eventually , as my ex colleague predicted of several hundred "counties" maybe better than all those national 'patriots' who war and kill for a national FLAG which in reflection of the age of this planet is a childish idea... a jigsaw reducing the power players ending up something similar to the balkan regions.(former Yugo) ...still capable of strike & strife, but unable to effect WW3?



for an idea , or rather against one (such as v fascism/nazis)  I understand, but for a piece of land that once was the property of ALL people of this planet.. or a "flag"by some leader who manipulared others , is surely so much IGNORANCE?

My former colleague recounts some of the strange activities of his Balkan neighbours
which reminds me of a story of a mature man we heard of,, told after the man died
in a suburb of a german city..

He was a stranger in the quiet conservative neighbourhood, and he attempted some friendly contact when he first arrived, with little reaction from the locals,
who all knew each other or were somehow "related"..

Matters got "cooler"& colder for the solo man, after one of the neighbours failed to cheat him over the sale of something.. they expected him to simply pay up and shut up..!!!

They then just shut him out of anything , their parties went on next door,

no one cared if he was distrubed if they made noises, parked their car in front of his house, provocatively so that his visitors could not, they walked past his bedroom windows, like voyeurs  when he had a rare visitors, disturbed his peace and privacy when they wanted
and dumped their rubbish all around him.. they had no shame or care about the "eccentric stranger"
even though he paid his bills and rent on time, and never bothered them or made a mess

...& they laughed  as their children mocked him.

they felt empowered because it was "their land"

eventually no one came to visit, he eventually WARNED people not to come, because of the nasty people who lived there...

He died, and someone, as he had no family, found his memoirs and realised that he was a "Hero"

had saved many peoples lives, helped many even many germans and a biography was printed and  became a high seller. The man was modest and had not promoted his real name , he didnt want publicity, his reasons for helping people were simply good.

however TO THE SHAME of the locals his memoirs ALSO told of their unfriendly actions
and the PUBLISHER told a journalist from a major TV station so that those negative people were eventually publicly shamed and must live with their shame for the rest of their lives or leave to hide away anonymously..

People should be empathic to strangers, after all we are all strangers as some time or other!
